Learning With Froot Loops

Now that I'm a stay at home mom, I am constantly trying to find ways to engage Beau in learning activities. This sometimes can be hard since I am on a strict Dave Ramsey budget. Looking through my pantry the other day, I found a box of Froot Loops, and thought, hmmmm... this will work.

After some quick thought (and an empty stomach), I decided to launch a learning series called

In this learning series, I plan to do different activities involving Froot Loops and other (minimal) supplies, for Preschool aged children.

Our first activity was Froot Loop Color Sorting. Here is what you need for this activity:

  • One box of Froot Loops (or a generic brand will work just fine, just make sure there are lots of different colors)
  • Some small, clear plastic containers (colored ones work but I like the clear because your little one can see through it to see what color belongs in each bin)
  • Tongs (optional)

Once you've gathered your materials, have your little one sit at the table. Take a few handfuls of Froot Loops out of the box and put them in a pile on the table. Place one color Froot Loop in a container, filling each one up until you have used one color of each of the Froot Loops.

Explain to your little one that each container holds a different color Froot Loop. Name each color Froot Loop as you point to each one. Once they are ready, they can start putting Froot Loops in the correct color container.

Once your little one has gotten the hang of it, add a pair of tongs to the mix! Model using the tongs to pick up one Froot Loop, and place it in the right color container. Then let your little one try it! This helps their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

Beau is having way too much fun to know he is LEARNING!

Try this fun (and affordable) game with your little one today! We had lots of fun!
