Apple Rice Crispy Treats

These treats are great to use in a classroom when your theme is Apples! Or make them at home to spruce up an old favorite.

Need more instructions? Follow them below:

Ingredients:

  • Bag of marshmallows
  • Butter (3 TBSPs)
  • 6 cups of Rice Crispies cereal
  • Red food coloring
  • Green jelly beans
  • Kit Kat bars (cut in to little squares)

Supplies:

  • A few mixing bowls
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Cutting Board
  • Round cookie cutter

Put the marshmallows and butter in a microwavable bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes. Be careful when getting it out! Add some red food coloring and stir. Mix in the Rice Crispies! Once mixed, flatten out on a cookie sheet and freeze for 10 minutes. Remove from the freezer and use your cookie cutter to cut out circles. Add your green jelly beans and Kit Kat pieces. Serve only to cutie pies and honey buns! Enjoy!

Apple Thematic Unit

It's almost Fall, y'all! I am going to make it through one more week before I spend hours decking out my house in pumpkin, spice and everything nice! I thought I would kick off the (pre) Fall season by adding an Apple Thematic Unit to my store. Now, I only have 15 products in my store, to date, so saying this is the best one isn't saying much, but I do really have to say I am pretty proud of it!

It includes activities to use with kids ages 3 to 7 for an entire week! That means you can incorporate your apple theme the week before or the week of Johnny Appleseed's birthday, which is September 26th! Here are some of the non worksheet items in the packet:

Johnny Appleseed Craftivity

Color, cut and glue pieces to form a Johnny Appleseed! Pair it with a sequencing writing activity over his life! How cute would these look on a bulletin board!

Seasons of the Apple Tree Wheel

Sure you could use a boring worksheet and have your students paste the seasons in order, but this is so much more fun! Use a brad in the middle for the kids to spin and spin their apple tree throughout all of the seasons!

A great book to use for this lesson is

Medial A Rhyming Apple Basket Activity

These are great to use in a small group lesson or independently as a station. Have your kiddos go the extra mile and write the words of the pictures!

Life Cycle of an Apple Tree Flip Book

How cute is this! It folds up to look like an apple with a worm coming out, but unfolds to tell the life cycle of an apple tree!

Apple Patterns Cut Outs

Use these cut outs to show patterns! These are from a purchased clip art set from the super talented Whimsy Clips!

Letter A Book

This is a beginning leveled reader showcasing the letter A. I started making these to teach Beau his letters. Once I am done with the entire alphabet I will post them in my store.

Also included in the packet are worksheets in every subject area, including a Johnny Appleseed character study that you can get for free here.

I hope this gets you just as excited about Fall being right around the corner!

Taking a Break...

Not that I was much of a hard core blogger anyway, but being 8 months pregnant and trying to get some material in my store is taking all the energy I have. I've decided to take a break from blogging, or more so, own the fact that I just can't find the time or energy to make any posts. I will revisit my cute blog (hopefully) soon!

Beachin' Waffles

For What's Cooking Wednesday we made Beachin' Waffles! These were so fun and so delicious!

When I make waffles I use Betty Crocker's recipe. These are super easy and super delicious. You also need a waffle iron, if you haven't figured that out by now.

First, mix all of the ingredients in the recipe.

Seperate the mixture in to two bowls. In one of the bowls, add blue food coloring.

Add a little more than half of the regular mixture to the waffle mixture, and fill in the rest of the waffle iron with the blue waffle mix. (See below).

Cook waffles as directed. When finished, garnish with whatever fun beach things you have! I found the mini umbrellas at Hobby Lobby and the gummy sharks at a local toy store. How fun!

Sea Life Cookies

This week for Takeaway Tuesday and What's Cookin' Wednesday we made Sea Life Cookies! Beau loved this because, duh, cookies!

I was lazy and just bought the remade sugar cookie dough. It was super easy and tasted just as delicious. I rolled it out and let Beau stamp in the cookie cutters.

We had two types of fish and a duck. I know a duck doesn't really go with the whole sea life theme, but it was really cute so we threw it in there.

While we let the cookies cool after baking, I made Royal Icing. Beau put in the food coloring and mixed it up. Then he lathered it on!

After he got tired (which was in about 2 minutes) I finished them off. I secretly enjoy doodling and had a lot of fun decorating these. And they sure were delicious. We ate most of them while watching "Finding Nemo" because we felt that movie was appropriate.

If you're on a diet or don't want your kids to splurge with so much sugar, consider sharing them with a public worker (mailman, garbage men, etc). Your kids will takeaway that doing nice things for other people is a great way to give back to your community! We will try that next time, but since I'm pregnant and eating for two, I needed the cookies.

Ocean Scene

For Make It Monday Beau got to watercolor two Under the Sea items that he picked out! He chose a scuba diver and some coral. Don't have watercolors? Use crayons, markers or whatever you have!

After he painted, he got to cut out some green strips of paper to glue on his background.

I helped him cut out the coral and his scuba diver.

This is definitely fridge material!

Beach Time

For Fun Friday, take your littles to a beach! We haven't had a chance to get down there, so I thought I would share our pictures from our trip last year to Port Aransas, Texas.

With Port Aransas being about four hours away, we rented a beach house with my immediate family and their families. We all had a great time and are going again in a few months.

I brought my camera stand and we had a beach photo shoot one morning. The sky was gorgeous!
